How spicy is it really? Is it American spicy or is it actually spicy?

Hi everyone! We are Maryam and Nabeel, and this is our food blog which we’ve created to supplement our YouTube channel, Actually Spicy. When we got married in 2017, we made it a point that as long as we are both in the same state, we will make a best effort to have dinner together every night. Through that, we got to cook for each other and learned to appreciate each other’s palettes. So we created this.

It’s a mix of recipes we’ve created and ones we have inherited from our families and often inspired by our Pakistani heritage. Regardless of the inspiration, these are all recipes that we enjoy making together.

Where did the name come from?

Have you ever gone to a restaurant and tried to figure out how spicy something is actually going to be? You see the menu and they’ve got all those symbols and clever names but really, you just want to know if “Pants on Fire” is normal spicy or if its too hot for even your immigrant palette. We found ourselves regularly asking our servers how hot something is, “is it American spicy, or is it actually spicy??” And viola, our channel name was chosen for us.

Are all the recipes spicy?

No, not in the least. But when we say something is spicy, it’s actually spicy. We’ll always tell you what you can do to reduce the heat, but our version has just enough kick to promote healthy levels of hydration.
